Choosing a Proper
Room Air Conditioner
Measure:
Measure the height and width of
the window opening, and make
sure the dimensions on the AC
packaging fit the window.
Choosing a Proper
Dehumidifier
Check:
Check out the nearby outlet and make sure to match the
unit to that outlet.
Calculate:
To calculate the area of the
room to be cooled, multiply
of the length of the room
by its width to determine
square footage.
Match:
Use the below chart to determine the proper room air
conditioner size. (Second floor rooms, kitchens and other
locations may require more BTUs.)
Special Considerations:
•Heavily shaded room: reduce capacity by 10%
•Kitchen to be cooled: add 4,000 BTUs
•Room above a ceiling: add 2,000 BTUs
•More than 2 people in a room: add 600 BTUs per person
Measure:
Measure the area in square feet that needs to
be dehumidified. Then determine the moisture
condition of the space.
Dehumidifier Selection:
Select the right size dehumidifier with the
chart below.

Pints
When constructed properly and with correct ventilation, basements should ideally
be dry. But somehow most basements end up becoming a victim to dampness.
PINT capacity on dehumidiers determines how many pints of water the unit will
take out of the air in a 24 HOUR period.
Use the chart below to identify the moisture level in your room and to estimate
the Pint capacity you need.
